we laugh to survive...

it was just three years ago we all graduated from uno with our high hopes and shipped off to london to celebrate and do a little bit of school work... ;)

we drank our first pints in london together...

we danced the nights away...

we then spent the rest of that summer having fun and being young careless grads.

celebrating that we actually made it. after that summer we all seemed to go our own ways. one got married and worked with one of her bffs (who happens to one of the others for the group) at a crazy ad agency for a while. some moved on to bigger and better things in bigger and better cities. one a became full time rock star...one became a teacher...one ended up working at a different college... two ended up at the red cross somehow. most of us got full-time jobs and grew up...somewhere along the line.

our dear friend crystal reid moved to bismarck to pursue her dream to be a newspaper editor.

she was married just two weekends ago (july 11th) to her soul mate and just 6 days later, she left us to be with the big man upstairs.

although we all still cant believe she is gone, we have to remember the great times we got to spend with crystal...even though it was all too short lived.

the long nights on our 'educational social establishment tours' with dr allen. falling down stairs at pubs without spilling beers (crystal)...climbing the worrick castle stairs together only to about knock ourselves out on the low ceilings when we got to the top (me)...riding the buses and tubes all over the uk...getting caught in the rain...you teaching me (at least trying to teach me) french at a pub after we had one too many pints ...and above all lots of laughs.

this was crystal's last column...ironically about her new life as a bride after planning her dream wedding to her love of her life. a piece that ran just a week after her wedding and days after she passed away tragically.

cheers to you crystal.
my classmate and graduation buddy.
world traveling mate.
college newspaper editor boss lady.
and above all friend.

as i looked for a last thought from crystal on her facebook page today- i found one of her favorite quotes:

it said 'we laugh to survive.'
...and that's what we will do.

we will miss you girl.
